DES MOINES — U.S. Representative Zach Nunn (IA-03) has successfully secured $4 million for infrastructure improvements at the Des Moines International Airport. The federal investment aims to enhance the airport's de-icing apron, ultimately boosting operational efficiency.
"Traveling can be a pain – passengers often experience delays, poor customer service, and uncomfortable seating. The Des Moines International Airport is working to fix that," expressed Rep. Nunn. He further emphasized, "Upgrading the de-icer at the airport will allow for fewer delays and more flights, improving the overall passenger experience."
The funding of $4 million was obtained through the community project funding process, enabling members to allocate resources for vital projects. This allocation was incorporated in the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2024, which was recently enacted into law on Saturday, March 6, 2024.
In response to this development, Kevin Foley, the Executive Director of the Des Moines Airport Authority, conveyed gratitude, stating, “The Des Moines Airport Authority is very appreciative of Congressman Nunn’s support for Community Project Funding to be used for airport development." He highlighted the significance of Rep. Nunn's contribution, mentioning that without it, the airport would not have received the substantial grant.
Rep. Nunn shared the news of the funding during a press conference held at the Des Moines International Airport alongside Executive Director Kevin Foley. The event marked a pivotal moment in the airport's development journey, bringing them closer to realizing comprehensive improvements, including the construction of a new passenger terminal.
