The U.S. House of Representatives has passed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2026, which includes several provisions led by Representative Zach Nunn of Iowa’s 3rd District. The legislation aims to address national security priorities and support military personnel.
Among the measures in the NDAA is a 4 percent pay increase for servicemembers. This provision is intended to provide financial support for those serving in the armed forces.
Representative Nunn, who has served as a combat veteran and currently holds the rank of Colonel in the Air Force Reserve, commented on the significance of the bill. “America remains the land of the free because of the brave men and women who serve in uniform,” said Rep. Nunn. “As a twenty-year combat veteran and current Colonel in the Air Force Reserve, I will never waver in defending our national security. That means securing the southern border, confronting the Chinese Communist Party, strengthening Iowa’s defense industry, and ensuring every servicemember, veteran, and first responder receives the care and support they’ve earned.”
The NDAA also contains provisions to strengthen national defense capabilities, bolster support for U.S. allies, and protect both military families and firefighter families.
Further details on specific initiatives included in this year’s NDAA were not disclosed in this initial announcement.
