Of the 7,979 people living in Decatur County in 2019, 49.8 percent (3,970) were women and 50.2 percent (4,009) were men, according to U.S. Census Bureau data obtained by the South Iowa News.

Males 18 and over outnumbered females in the same age group by a ratio of 2,411-to-2,266. In the 65 and over age range, there were 845 females and 722 males.
