Nearly a quarter of COVID-19 cases in Iowa come from children. | Pixabay
Children 17 and younger represent 22% of the COVID-19 positivity rate throughout Iowa, state data shows.
The Iowa Department of Public Health released reports of 8,308 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, Aug. 1, with 22% of those being children the age of 17 or younger, which is up 17% from the last reports on Aug. 25, according to KWQC.

The positivity rates were taken from a seven-day reporting period, the Associated Press reported, while positivity rates for older teens and 20 year olds alone came in at 20%.
Iowa has vaccinated 51.8% of its population, the AP reported.
As of Sept. 1, the state has reported 408,309 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began, KWQC reported. Of Iowa's population, 49.2%, or 1,551,098 residents, were fully vaccinated. KWQC also reported that 1.9 million people in Iowa have been tested and 376,954 have recovered from the virus.
The Iowa Department of Health also reported 39 additional deaths due to COVID-19, brining the state total since the pandemic began at 6,307, KCCI reported.
