Iowa sees decline in COVID cases, but number still tops 1,000 daily

After a September increase in COVID-19 positive cases, Iowa cases have started to decline. 

As of Oct. 13, Iowa COVID cases continue to decline, but the average number of daily new cases remains above 1,000, according to the Iowa Capital Dispatch. 

The daily average for new COVID cases as of Oct. 13 was 1,222 a day, according to the Iowa Capital Dispatch. 

According to The Gazette, the Iowa Department of Public Health confirmed 97 new deaths in the week of Oct. 13.

Iowa's total death toll since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020 is 6,748 as of Oct. 13, according to the Gazette.

The Gazette reports that in the past week, Linn County reported four deaths; Black Hawk County reported 10; Polk County reported seven; Dallas, Des Moines, Henry, Pottawattamie and Webster counties reported five; Page County reported four; Buena Vista, Calhoun, Cherokee, Clay, Dubuque, Franklin, Iowa Jasper, Jefferson, Madison, Marion and Wapellos counties reported two; Boone, Bremer, Cas, Cedar, Clarke, Clinton, Fayette, Floyd, Guthrie, Ida, Jones, Kossuth, Lee, Marshall, Mills, Monona, Palo Alto, Poweshiek, Scott, Tama, Woodbury and Wright counties reported one. 

According to The Gazette, Iowa reported 8,167 new cases for the week compared to 9,860 last week.
