An Iowa school board candidate’s unvaccinated wife has died from COVID-related complications.
Renne Murphy, wife of candidate for Ankeny school board Trent Murphy, died from COVID-19 on Oct. 22 after struggling with the virus since early September, according to the Des Moines Register.
“Iowa School Board Candidate’s Unvaxxed Wife Dies at 51 From COVID-19," Ileen Left wrote in an Oct. 25 Twitter post. "Conservatives are trying to keep kids unvaccinated and unmasked. Sad.”
Originally from Des Moines, Renee Murphy worked as a teacher and mentor at the Ankeny Leadership Institute. She was age 51 when she died, the Des Moines Register reported.
"She did everything she could to make connections, and even if people didn't even think they would like to be around each other, the next thing you know they found commonalities and things that they agreed with before, and that's what we're gonna miss," Trent Murphy said of his wife, according to Des Moines Register.
The Daily Beast reported that she decided against getting the vaccine because she worried that it would compromise the sole kidney she had remaining after losing her other one to kidney cancer.
Her husband is vaccinated and has said that he is planning on getting a booster once he becomes eligible for the shot. He has vowed to stay in the race for Ankeny school board.
