Reports indicate that approximately 1 in 3 Iowa state care facility workers refuse to take the COVID-19 vaccine.
KCCI News reported that close to one-third of employees at three state-run care facilities have refused the COVID-19 vaccine, according to Iowa officials.
"Getting my last minute webinar prep in & I can't stop thinking about a new Iowa law that allows employees to refuse an employer-mandated vaccine if it would be 'injurious to the health and well-being of the employee or an individual residing with the employee.' Huh?" Bloomberg Law Assistant Team Lead Dori Goldstein wrote in a Nov. 18 Twitter post.
Reports shows that Glenwood Resource Center had 197 employees that remained unvaccinated as of Nov. 5, according to KCCI News. Of those, 149 are considered direct-care or clinical employees.
A spokesperson from the Iowa Department of Human Services expressed that it is important that team members at state-run facilities get vaccinated, according to Iowa Capital Dispatch.
Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds has been vocal about her opposition to federal efforts mandating health care professionals at Medicare and Medicaid-backed facilities be vaccinated.
“Medical providers that have been on the frontlines of this pandemic saving lives deserve the freedom and ability to make their own informed health care decisions,” Reynolds said last week, according to Iowa Capital Dispatch.
