Iowa Hawkeye Maddy Murphy has been named a Honda Sport Award Finalist. The Honda Sport Award is given each year to one woman athlete in each of the 12 NCAA-sanctioned sports.
"Murphy is the first player in school history to earn five All-Big Ten honors, and she joins Kristy Gleason as the second Hawkeye to earn four All-America distinctions," according to Hawkeye Sports.
Murphy is the first Hawkeye student-athlete to make it as a finalist since 2008’s Lauren Pfieffer, and the 12th Hawkeye to be given the hard-earned honor. Murphy earned the distinction after being named an NFHCA All-American four times, and scoring over 139 career points over 51 career games, in which she earned five Big-Ten honors.
The winners for the Honda Sport Awards will be announced after a panel of 1,000 judges votes on the best candidates from every sport.
