A federal court sentenced a Cedar Rapids man to prison for child pornography two days before Christmas last month.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office of the Southern District of Iowa said in a release that U.S. District Court Chief Judge John A. Jarvey imposed a 60-month sentence on Matthew Patrick Langenberg.
Authorities identified the 52-year-old Langenberg after an iPhone connected to him was turned over to the Coralville Police Department following the discovery of inappropriate media on the smartphone.
A forensic examination of the iPhone yielded 56 images depicting child pornography and one video depicting anime child pornography, according to Cedar Rapids ABC affiliate KCRG.
Langenberg was also accused of using Bit Torrent software to obtain the child pornography and conducting web searches consistent with child pornography, according to the release.
KCRG reported that Langenberg pleaded guilty last August.
Aside from his prison sentence, Langenberg was ordered to serve five years of supervised release and pay $100 to the Crime Victims’ Fund, the release said.
The case was prosecuted as part of the U.S. Department of Justice’s 16-year-old “Project Safe Childhood” initiative.
The attorney's office urges anyone with knowledge of a child being sexually abused to call the Iowa Sexual Abuse Hotline at 1-800-284-7821.
