Southwestern Community College recently issued the following announcement.

Two Southwestern Community College (SWCC) students, Kaci Abildtrup of Creston, and Thomas Esterhuyse of Western Cape, South Africa, were honored as members of the 2022 All-Iowa Academic Team during a recognition ceremony sponsored by the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and held Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at 6 p.m., at the Embassy Suites in Des Moines.

During the event, Dr. Marjorie McGuire-Welch, Southwestern’s president, received the Paragon President Award. The award recognizes college presidents who have shown support of student success initiatives leading to stronger pathways to completion, transfer, and employment. They have taken an active interest in supporting high-achieving students and developing student leaders on campus.

Phi Theta Kappa International serves to recognize and encourage the academic achievement of two-year college students worldwide. Dr. Dan Platt, English instructor, and Joe Pastorino, business instructor, are the advisors for SWCC’s Phi Theta Kappa chapter.
