Secondary Roads Seasonal Laborer: Part-time

“Decatur County will be accepting applications for the position of “Laborer – Seasonal.”  This position will report to the Leon location.  Qualified applicants must have a high school diploma, or GED equivalent and a valid driver’s license.  A valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License is preferred but not required.  Applicants must be able to pass the following: driving record screening, pre-employment physical examination, background check, and drug test.  Applicant must be at least 18 years of age.

Job duties include, but are not limited to, activities such as lifting and moving heavy objects, operating construction equipment, operating a flex-wing and/or boom mower on an agricultural tractor, operating a jack hammer, truck driving, service heavy equipment, and other activities related to road maintenance.  Applicant should be comfortable working outside in both hot and cold weather, and have the physical capacity to work with large heavy objects/equipment for a full work day. 

Applicants must have a strong work ethic and desire to learn new skills.  Experience operating heavy machinery such as motor graders, dozers, backhoes, heavy trucks, and agricultural tractors is desirable.  An ideal applicant is someone with the above qualifications and equipment experience that is a hard worker, works well with coworkers and the public, and enjoys working outside.

Successful applicants may begin work as soon as possible.  Employment will end sometime in the fall but is flexible depending on the applicant. Typical work schedule will be 6:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday – Thursday.
