Of the 4,127 people living in Chariton in 2020, 50.8 percent (2,098) were women and 49.2 percent (2,029) were men, according to U.S. Census Bureau data obtained by the South Iowa News.

Males 18 and over outnumbered females in the same age group by 78. In the 65 and over age range, there were 551 females and 343 males.
