Southwestern Community College (SWCC) auto collision repair/refinish student Grant Van Nostrand of Clarinda was honored as the 2022 SWCC Gordon Bills Auto Body Scholarship recipient during an informal presentation held on Thursday, May 12, at 9 a.m., in the college’s automotive department, located in the SWCC Instructional Center.

Van Nostrand has been a student in the collision repair/refinish program since the fall of 2021. His scholarship will be in the amount of $1,000 to be used for the 2022-23 academic year at Southwestern.

The Gordon Bills Auto Body Scholarship was established through SWCC’s Education Foundation to honor Gordon’s legacy after he passed away on March 15, 2022. Gordon “G.B.” Bills moved to Creston in 1966 to start the auto body program at Southwestern Community College. Bills took great pride in the program and was truly a lifetime supporter of Southwestern.

Kevin Bills, Gordon’s son, said the family is extremely appreciative of the gifts received from family and friends, which in-turn enabled the family to be able to create this scholarship.

Van Nostrand will earn his diploma in auto collision repair/refinish in June 2022. He plans to continue with the second year of the program during the 2022-23 academic year with a goal of earning his Associate of Applied Science degree in automotive collision repair/refinish in May 2023.
