West Monona'S Chesnut To Play For Spartans

Spartan softball announced the signing of Madison Chesnut from West Monona High School in Onawa.

Chesnut is a multi-sport athlete who had much success in softball, as well as track and volleyball, during her high school career. In softball, she was a five-year starter at third base and catcher and team captain during her team's 2022 run. Her teams made it to five regional finals. They were the Western Valley Conference champions in 2020 and 2022. She was selected as a top 25 pre-season catcher in all classes in Iowa this past year. Following the 2022 season, she was selected as a First Team All-District catcher in Class 2A; as well as 2A All State, third team; and First Team All-Conference.

Danny Jensen, Southwestern head softball coach, can't wait to see her on the field for his Spartan team.

Jensen said, "Madison will bring speed on the bases and is a very good contact hitter. She won several leadership awards in softball, volleyball, and track during her career so will be a great leader for our team as well."

Chesnut exceled academically serving as National Honor Society Chapter co-president; earned several academic scholarships; and received softball, volleyball, and track conference academic awards. She served as FCCLA regional chapter president, as well as district treasurer.
