First Take, an elite six-member vocal jazz ensemble made up of Southwestern Community College School for Music Vocations’ students, will be performing live this weekend at the American Choral Directors Association National Conference, held Feb. 22-25, in Cincinnati, Ohio.
According to Dr. Jeremy Fox, SWCC School for Music Vocations co-director, First Take was chosen as the top vocal jazz ensemble out of 17 submissions nationwide. The group will be the only collegiate vocal jazz ensemble to perform at the conference. First Take will be performing on Saturday, Feb. 24, at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., in Procter & Gamble Hall at the Aronoff Center, one of the largest concert halls in Cincinnati.
First Take tours nationwide each year. The ensemble has opened for groups such as The Real Group, säje, and the NY Voices. Three of the past five years, First Take has earned recognition from Downbeat Magazine, twice as best Jazz Vocal Group in the Community College category and once for outstanding performance.
Congratulations, First Take!
