During this event, community college trustees, presidents, staff, and business partners showcased career and technical education (CTE) programs offered at community colleges throughout the state. SWCC’s table focused on the college’s welding technology program. Welding students Cooper Jipsen of Griswold and Logan Eilts of Wiota, accompanied by Luke Nelson, SWCC welding technology instructor, answered questions related to the program from elected officials, including Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds; community college presidents; and state legislators.
As part of the festivities, the Iowa Legislature and Gov. Reynolds designated February 28, 2023, as Community College Day to educate others about the success community colleges have had, continue to have, and will have in the future for Iowa’s students, workforce, and economy.
Community College Day on the Hill was organized by the Community Colleges for Iowa.
