DES MOINES — U.S. Representative Zach Nunn (IA-03) has revealed plans for the “Connecting Iowa’s Heroes: Veteran Resource Fair,” aimed at assisting Iowa's veterans by linking them with support from community organizations and government agencies in the area.

"As a veteran of the Air Force and current member of the Air Force Reserve, I know there is very little that is more important than supporting current servicemembers and providing resources to veterans who have served our country. That’s why I’m excited to announce our first Connecting Iowa’s Heroes: Veteran Resource Fair,” said Rep. Nunn. "Veterans can attend to learn more about support within our community. I hope to see you there!”

The fair will feature three breakout sessions with updates from various speakers. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from Rep. Nunn about his efforts in Congress for Iowa’s veterans, Tracie Pinkston from the Iowa Veterans Affairs Regional Office discussing accessing PACT Act resources, and Katina Mach-Weissenburger from the Des Moines Vet Center addressing mental health support for veterans dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder. Additional speakers are still pending confirmation.

Rep. Nunn will also have caseworkers on hand to assist veterans in navigating bureaucracy at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and other government agencies. Various community organizations, including veteran affairs service officers from Polk and Guthrie counties, will be present at the event.

The Connecting Iowa’s Heroes: Veteran Resource Fair is scheduled to take place on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at the Gold Star Museum in Johnston, IA. The event will run from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM and is open to all veterans, active duty service members, and individuals who support veterans. Additional information can be found at https://nunn.house.gov/vetfair. The event is free and open to the public.
