Representative Zach Nunn of Iowa's 3rd District has put forth a resolution to designate May 2025 as Renewable Fuels Month. The resolution emphasizes the importance of renewable fuels such as ethanol and biodiesel in bolstering rural economies, lowering energy expenses, and enhancing American energy self-sufficiency. Senator Pete Ricketts from Nebraska is spearheading a similar initiative in the Senate.

Rep. Nunn stated, “Iowa’s biofuel industry is a national leader because we trust our farmers and fuel producers to drive energy innovation.” He further noted that recognizing May as Renewable Fuels Month underscores the role of renewable biofuels in advancing America's energy sector, reinforcing energy independence, and supporting Iowa's agricultural community.

Iowa stands at the forefront of renewable fuel production and consumption nationwide. As per data from the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association, renewable fuels contributed to 57,000 jobs and $7.2 billion of the state's GDP in 2022.

Senator Ricketts remarked, “Renewable fuels like ethanol and biodiesel are a win for Nebraska and a win for America.” He highlighted their benefits in terms of cost savings for consumers, support for agriculture in Nebraska, environmental protection, and promotion of U.S. energy independence. Ricketts expressed gratitude for bipartisan backing of the resolution and encouraged Americans to opt for renewable fuels.

The full text of the resolution is available for public viewing.
