Representatives Zach Nunn and Sydney Kamlager-Dove have introduced a bipartisan resolution to recognize May as National Foster Care Month. The resolution aims to honor children, families, and professionals involved in the foster care system. This follows President Trump's designation of May as Foster Care Month and urges Congress to adopt policies that improve outcomes for youth in care and bolster support for foster families nationwide.

"Every child deserves a safe, loving, and permanent home. As a dad to six kids, including two Kelly and I were blessed to adopt, this resolution is personal to me," said Rep. Nunn. "This month and every month, we honor the foster parents, the parents who choose to adopt, and the social workers who step up for kids with nowhere else to turn."

Rep. Kamlager-Dove added: "All children deserve stable environments where they can learn, grow, and thrive. I am proud to re-introduce this bipartisan resolution alongside the Foster Youth Caucus to recognize the resilience of our foster youth."

Data from the U.S. Children’s Bureau indicates that over 369,000 children are currently in foster care across the country. These children often encounter significant challenges such as disparities in health, education, and long-term stability.

National Foster Care Month was established in 1988 to highlight the importance of foster care and those dedicated to supporting vulnerable children. The Congressional Caucus on Foster Youth serves as a platform for lawmakers to promote bipartisan solutions that enhance the lives of youth and families within the child welfare system.

The resolution also saw support from Foster Youth Caucus co-chairs Mary Gay Scanlon, Gwen Moore, Don Bacon, and Nancy Mace.
