Counties and cities in Iowa are being encouraged to vote by mail for special elections during the coronavirus pandemic.
Monroe County and several other counties in Iowa have upcoming special elections and residents are being asked to protect themselves from COVID-19 while voting in the elections, according to Iowa Public Radio.
"We ask that you protect yourselves and our precinct election officials by simply completing a postage paid absentee ballot request form and returning it as soon as possible,” Woodbury County Auditor Pat Gill said in a statement regarding special elections.
The Iowa Secretary of State Office is encouraging residents to safely vote.
"We are strongly encouraging Iowans to vote by mail," the secretary of state's spokesman said in an announcement.
Monroe County's special election is scheduled for April 21.
