U.S. Representative Zach Nunn (IA-03) has been appointed as Vice Chair of the House Financial Services Subcommittee on National Security, Illicit Finance, and International Financial Institutions. U.S. Representative Warren Davidson (OH-08) will lead the subcommittee.
"Foreign adversaries, like China and Russia, take advantage of every opportunity to jeopardize our national security. As a former cyber intelligence officer, I’ve witnessed firsthand that these attacks don’t happen on a traditional battlefield," said Rep. Nunn. "As the threats against our country evolve, I look forward to working with the Committee to prioritize combatting illicit finance, fostering technological innovation, and ensuring that our security measures stay ahead of emerging threats."
Rep. Nunn has served in the United States Air Force for two decades as an airborne intelligence officer with missions over Russia and China. After 9/11, he completed three deployments to the Middle East and accumulated over 700 combat hours. He also served as Director of Cybersecurity at the White House’s National Security Council addressing cyber-attacks from foreign entities. Currently, he holds the rank of Colonel in the U.S. Air Force Reserve.
"As an U.S. Air Force veteran and service on our Committee in Congress, Rep. Nunn is a perfect member to help lead the National Security Subcommittee alongside Rep. Davidson," stated Chairman Hill of the House Financial Services Committee. "Rep. Nunn understands the importance of protecting our nation’s national security, whether that is combating illicit finance or maintaining American leadership in international financial markets."
In his previous term in Congress, Rep. Nunn was instrumental in passing bipartisan legislation aimed at enhancing transparency concerning sanctions enforcement against Iran and enabling targeted legislative responses to Iranian actions.
"As a veteran of the United States Air Force, still serving as Colonel in the Air Force Reserve, Rep. Nunn has devoted himself to securing America’s foreign and domestic national security interests," remarked Chairman Davidson."I am excited to have Rep. Nunn serve as my Vice Chairman."
Besides his role as Vice Chair for this subcommittee, Rep. Nunn will participate in other committees focusing on digital assets and capital markets.
