CITY OF OTTUMWA: Weekend Shooting Results in Arrest

City of Ottumwa issued the following announcement on Aug. 13. 

On Saturday, August 8, 2020, at approximately 10:43 p.m., officers from the Ottumwa Police Department, responded to the 1000 Block of West Main on a report of a shooting.  It was reported that two vehicles had stopped in the roadway and a person from one vehicle shot at persons who were inside of the other vehicle.  Officers responded and found evidence of gunshots, but all the people involved in the shooting had departed the area.   

A short time later, the Wapello County Sheriff’s Department received information about a motor vehicle collision that had taken place west of Ottumwa on Highway 34.  It was determined that the vehicle involved in the previous shooting on W. Main Street, had forced the same vehicle that it had previously shot at, off of the roadway and into the ditch.   Nobody was injured as a result of the shooting or the motor vehicle collision.    

On Wednesday, August 12, 2020, officers from the Ottumwa Police Department and the Wapello County Sheriff’s Department executed a search warrant at 424 N. Jefferson Street, in Ottumwa, regarding this incident.  As a result of the search, officers recovered firearms and also located the vehicle that was involved in the shooting. 

Shwee Htoo, age 27, of 424 N. Jefferson, Ottumwa, was arrested and charged
