Representative Zach Nunn of Iowa’s Third Congressional District voted in favor of legislation to reopen the federal government after a 43-day shutdown. The Senate Amendment to H.R. 5371, known as the Continuing Appropriations, Agriculture, Legislative Branch, Military Construction and Veterans Affairs, and Extensions Act for 2026, extends funding for most federal agencies through January 30, 2026. It also provides full-year funding for the Department of Agriculture, the Legislative Branch, and the Department of Veterans Affairs.

“This was never a red or blue issue, this was about working together to open the government for the American people,” said Rep. Nunn. “While I’m glad we finally ended the gridlock, my Democratic colleagues need to understand what their political gamesmanship cost Iowa. I spent this completely avoidable shutdown hearing directly from Iowans who were missing paychecks, losing access to services, and worrying about how to feed their families. The deal we passed today was on the table more than a month ago, and we should have reached it before this shutdown ever began.”

In addition to supporting the measure that reopened the government, Rep. Nunn secured $3.5 million in federal investments for Iowa’s Third Congressional District through Community Project Funding (CPF). This process enables members of Congress to advocate for targeted projects intended to address specific local needs.

“I’m proud to see the investments we fought for make it across the finish line,” continued Rep. Nunn. “These projects will deliver real results for families, farmers, and communities across the Third District, and I look forward to highlighting each of these local wins in the days ahead.”

Rep. Nunn stated that further details regarding which projects received funding will be provided at a later date.
