City of Ottumwa issued the following announcement on Oct. 12.
The Ottumwa Historic Preservation Commission will hold two community meetings for residents of historic districts and preservation enthusiasts. These meetings follow a successful effort last year to hold neighborhood meetings in each of the City’s four residential historic districts. “When we met with community members last year, we were starting a number of projects,” said Commission Chair Dennis Willhoit. “Now many of those projects are starting to mature and we are preparing to take on more ambitious projects. We’ll need the support of volunteers and community members as we continue to grow in our mission.”
The community meetings are open to the public and will be held at the Railroad Depot at 210 W Main St. on Wednesday October 14th and Monday October 19th at 7 PM. The large space will provide room for social distancing, however community members wishing to participate virtually can register to participate by Zoom at cityofottumwa.com/preservation.
The Ottumwa Historic Preservation Commission was established in 1990 to advise local elected officials on matters related to historic preservations and to undertake special projects in the community. Ottumwa now has seven Historic Districts on the National Register of Historic Places and a number of individual sites as well.
