City of Ottumwa issued the following announcement on Dec. 30.
The Historic Preservation Commission for the City of Ottumwa is postponing the holiday luminary project indefinitely. The event, which had originally been scheduled for December 23, was rescheduled to take place on New Year’s Eve due to the high winds last week. Commission Chair Dennis Willhoit says that while the weather is looking suitable, the commission members are concerned with the safety of its volunteers. “This recent snow and ice storm has left behind difficult conditions on our sidewalks in historic neighborhoods,” says Willhoit.
Willhoit added that May is Historic Preservation Month in the United States. “Perhaps we will be able to complete the luminary project during that celebratory month.”
