City of Ottumwa issued the following announcement on August 04.
Mayor Tom X. Lazio announced to the community that he will not seek re-election for the office of Mayor in the November general election. “I have enjoyed the opportunity to work with a variety of great staff on the day to day operations of the City” Lazio said, “that the City Council has been a positive and cohesive group with which to work”. The Mayor states he is ready to retire and to hand off the role of Mayor. “The City is in good hands and is moving forward.”
Mayor Lazio is very pleased with City Administrator Phil Rath. “Phil is a very good administrator who is committed to improving the quality of life in Ottumwa. He has his team in place and they are working together to make things more consistent, friendly and professional in the City”.
Mayor Lazio was elected as Mayor of Ottumwa in November 2013 and took office January 2014. He will have served eight years as Mayor at the end of his term.
