City of Ottumwa issued the following announcement on September 8.
On Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at approximately 12:58 PM, the Ottumwa Police Department responded to the lagoon located by the Beach Ottumwa Waterpark regarding a possible body in the water.
It was confirmed that a deceased male was in the water near the south end of the lagoon. The Ottumwa Fire Department was contacted to facilitate the recovery of the body.
On Friday, September 3, 2021, an autopsy was conducted on the male at the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Ankeny, Iowa. No trauma was observed on the male that would have caused death.
On Tuesday, September 8, 2021, police received the results of a fingerprint analysis that identified the male recovered from the lagoon as Clayton G. Davidson, age 37, of Knoxville, Tennessee.
The investigation has identified that Davidson did have relatives in the Ottumwa area. If anyone has information regarding Davidson, they are requested to contact the Ottumwa Police Department at 641-683-0661.
