Anthe Nijziel, a senior at the University of Iowa, was recently recognized as the Division I National Defensive Player of the Week by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association, according to a press release from the team.
Nijziel, a native of Eindhoven, Netherlands, received the honor Oct 6 after solidifying a defense that helped Iowa win two games over Penn State last weekend at Grant Field.
"NFHCA Division I National Players of the Week: Defense, Anthe Nijziel, No. 1; Offense: Erin Matson, No. 5," NFHCA announced on Twitter.
Nijzziel was also awarded the Big Ten Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 28, marking the second week in a row that she has earned the honor, according to a separate press release from the team.
Nijziel is the team's second NFHCA honoree this season, following senior Maddy Murphy's NFHCA Offensive Player of the Week honor Sept. 1.
