Arrest of Marissa Frederick

On Monday, March 14, 2022, at approximately 7:41 p.m., members of the Ottumwa Police Department were dispatched to 137 North Ward Street in Ottumwa, Iowa as it was reported that the defendant, Marissa Kay Frederick (Age 34) had driven a motor vehicle while intoxicated with her two (2) minor children inside of the vehicle.

Upon arrival, officers knocked on the door numerous times to make contact with Frederick as she was asleep inside of the residence. Frederick did not wake up. Officers observed Frederick’s two (2) minor children (Ages 3 and 9) inside of the residence who, after several attempts, woke Frederick and had her come to the door. Upon contact, Frederick was observed to have a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on her breath, extremely slurred speech, poor balance, and admitted to consuming alcoholic beverages. Frederick. Frederick was offered and refused to submit to a preliminary breath test.

At or about 8:25 pm, based upon Frederick’s level of intoxication, and inability to care for and protect the minor children, Frederick was arrested.

Both minor children were left in the care of family members.  As a result of result of the incident, Frederick, was charged with the following offense: 

  •   Child Neglect or Abandonment  of Dependent Person – (Class “C” Felony)
Frederick has since bonded out of the Wapello County Jail. 

Please note the following pursuant to recent Supreme Court rulings:   “A criminal charge is merely an accusation and a defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.”
