House Fire On Mary St.

On Friday, September 2, 2022, at 12:57 A.M. Ottumwa emergency responders were called to the report of a house on fire at 1108 E. Mary St. Firefighters arrived at the scene approximately four minutes after the call to find heavy smoke emitting from the home. 

A fire was located at the rear of the home and all occupants escaped from the fire.

A second alarm was called after arrival for assistance from off duty firefighters. The fire was quickly extinguished however, the home sustained heavy smoke damage and moderate fire damage. 

Damage is estimated at $50,000.00.

The origin of the fire was in the first floor bathroom and the cause of the fire is under investigation. 

There is no insurance and the Red Cross has been called to assist the occupants. 

No injuries to occupants or firefighters occurred. 

The Ottumwa Police Dept., Ottumwa Police Dept. Communications, ORMICS, Mid-American Energy, Alliant Energy and the American Red Cross assisted the Ottumwa Fire Dept.
