SWCC students qualify for 2023 national leadership conference

Southwestern Community College (SWCC) business and information technology students competed at the Business Professionals of America State Leadership Conference, held Feb. 20-21, in Des Moines, with a portion of those students qualifying for national competition.

 State place winners from SWCC included:

  • College Accounting - Cody Anderson of Murray, second place, and Brianna Stewart of Kellerton, third place
  • Banking & Finance - Brianna Stewart of Kellerton, first place
  • Administrative Support - Hallica Warren-Anderson of Alpha, Illinois, second place; Jacob Shedarowich of Gilbert, seventh place; Ashton Willis of Maysville, Missouri, 10th place; Emily McIntosh of Modale, 11th place; and Halsie Barnes of Tingley, 14th place.
  • Financial Math & Analysis - Hallica Warren-Anderson of Alpha, Illinois, third place
  • Marketing, Management, and Human Resources - Kaitlyn Mitchell of Afton, first place
  • Meeting & Event Planning - Jacob Shedarowich of Gilbert, fourth place
Of the students placing at state, the following students qualified and are competing at nationals: Anderson, Stewart, and Warren-Anderson. Mitchell and Shedarowich qualified as well, but will not be able to attend due to scheduling conflicts. National competition will be held during the Business Professionals of America National Leadership Conference, April 26-30, in Anaheim, California. Students will be accompanied by Dr. Barb Brown and Holly Booth, SWCC business and information technology instructors.
