On March 25, 2024, U.S. Representative Zach Nunn (IA-03) organized the Connecting Iowa’s Heroes: Veterans Resource Fair at the Iowa Gold Star Military Museum in Johnston, Iowa. The event drew in nearly 200 veterans and community members eager to access support from various community organizations and government agencies for returning servicemembers and veterans.

"As a veteran of the Air Force and current member of the Air Force Reserve, I know there is very little that is more important than supporting current servicemembers and providing resources to veterans who have served our country," emphasized Rep. Nunn.

The resource fair featured updates from key figures in the veterans' support community, including Todd Jacobus, Commandant of the Iowa Department of Veterans Affairs, Tracie Pinkston, Director of the Iowa Veterans Affairs Regional Office, Katina Mach-Weissenburger, Director of the Des Moines Vet Center, and Lisa Curnes, Director of the VA Central Iowa Health Care Center.

Rep. Nunn's team of caseworkers played a crucial role in helping veterans navigate the bureaucracy at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and other government agencies, ensuring they received the assistance they needed.

Reflecting on the event's success, Rep. Nunn expressed gratitude towards the community organizations that contributed to the fair's positive outcome. "Today’s event was a huge success thanks to the community organizations that showed up today to help connect Iowa’s veterans with the services they’ve earned," he remarked.

The event welcomed not only veterans and active-duty servicemembers but also individuals who support the veteran community, emphasizing a collective effort to provide the necessary resources and support for those who have served their country.
