U.S. Representative Zach Nunn has announced a federal investment of $1.5 million aimed at replacing the Bevington Park Road Bridge over the Middle River in Madison County, Iowa. This funding is intended to improve infrastructure and ensure safe travel for residents.

Nunn emphasized the importance of investing in infrastructure, stating, "Iowans rely on safe bridges and roads to get to work, school, and spend time with family. We need to invest in our infrastructure so Iowans can continue to get from point A to point B." He added that securing this investment aligns with federal goals: "This is exactly the kind of investment the federal government should make – one that does the most good for the most people."

The $1.5 million was obtained through the Community Project Funding process and was part of the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2024, signed into law earlier this year.

Madison County Engineer Mike Hackett expressed gratitude for Nunn's efforts: “Bevington Park Road is traveled daily by many. The bridge is used for commuters, agricultural goods and services, fire and rescue, schools, and mail routes. Getting the bridge replaced over the Middle River is an important step in bringing our infrastructure up to par.” Hackett further noted his appreciation for securing these funds as a critical investment into local infrastructure.

The current bridge, a narrow iron structure built 91 years ago with weight restrictions, will be replaced by a wider bridge capable of accommodating heavier vehicles. The new bridge is expected to be completed during fiscal year 2026.

Nunn made this announcement at a meeting held at the Bevington Park Road Bridge site alongside Mike Hackett and other members from Madison County's Maintenance and Secondary Roads Department.
