City of Ottumwa issued the following announcement on Apr. 23.
The City of Ottumwa Police Department has received a grant in the amount of $15,000 from the Legacy Foundation for the purchase of bullet proof vests to be utilized by members of the Emergency Response Team. These heavy duty vests are worn for officer protection during high risk situations. The vest are made of a heavy duty material which can sustain more impact from gun fire than regular vests worn by officers every day.
