City of Ottumwa issued the following announcement on Nov. 18.
In response to the uptick in cases related to the novel coronavirus known as COVID-19, city offices will be closed to any unscheduled guests beginning on Wednesday, November 18. Access to City buildings will be by appointment only. This decision addresses the effort to reduce the spread of the virus and to aid in the long-term continuity of services for the public. We will continue to monitor the advice of local, state, and federal authorities on the subject and will re-open at the earliest date possible.
During this period, we will actively review the ability to provide the menu of services available to the public and encourage individuals to utilize phone, e-mail, and the US Postal service as feasible. We will continue to provide updates regarding the availability and access to public services via the city website and Facebook page. Please call ahead or visit the city website for information regarding the status of operations and instructions on how to access services during this period.
We encourage everyone to stay vigilant during this time and follow the guidelines as outlined by the Iowa Department of Public Health including proper hygiene and social distancing. For changes in the future availability of services we encourage residents and businesses to reference the city webpage at www.cityofottumwa.com regularly.
