After three years serving as Iowa's medical director and epidemiologist, Dr. Caitlin Pedati will be leaving the role by the end of October.
The Iowa Department of Public Health published a press release that stated Pedati's leave can be contributed to her wish to pursue other career opportunities in the near future, KCRG reported.
“The IDPH announced Wednesday morning that Dr. Caitlin Pedati will be leaving her position in late October. Dr. Pedati hasn’t appeared as part of those public events in months. Pedati plans to seek new career opportunities and contained well-wishes from the governor," Terrence Blackwell tweeted Sept. 22.
Over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, Pedati was responsible for speaking at news conferences set up by Gov. Kim Reynolds.
Reynolds also released a statement thanking Pedati for her dedication to the position, despite having to work through a global health crisis.
“I want to thank Dr. Pedati for her outstanding service to the people of Iowa, especially throughout the pandemic," Reynolds said, according to KCRG. "She has been instrumental to our state’s strong COVID-19 response and a valued member of my team. I wish her much success and happiness in all that she pursues."
