U.S. Representative Zach Nunn has announced the passage of a full-year extension for agricultural programs aimed at supporting Iowa farmers and rural communities. This legislative move is part of the Further Continuing Appropriations and Other Extensions Act, which extends Farm Bill programs until September 30, 2024.
In his statement, Rep. Nunn emphasized the importance of Iowa's farmers to the national economy, noting their role in providing essential services like food and fuel production. He acknowledged the challenges faced by producers due to rising input costs and inflation affecting profits.
"Iowa’s farmers are critical to the American economy, providing the essential service of feeding and fueling our country," said Nunn. "With input costs up and inflation driving profits down, producers are facing enough difficulties without worrying about D.C. hurting their business."
The extension ensures that over 84,000 Iowa farmers continue to benefit from key programs such as commodity support through crop insurance, conservation initiatives, rural development including infrastructure and healthcare services, rural broadband expansion, agricultural innovation investments, and biofuel production backing.
Rep. Nunn also highlighted his ongoing efforts for a comprehensive five-year Farm Bill that aligns with priorities identified during Farm Bill Listening Tours: "That’s why today I voted to extend funding for critical farm programs for a year so Iowa’s producers can have the certainty they need... I’m also continuing to aggressively fight for a five-year Farm Bill."
