The Wapello County Children's Alliance (WCCA) has received $95,000 in grant money.
The grant was awarded to the WCA to begin a Resilient Communities Project in an effort to assist the state's Child Abuse Prevention Program.
The Wapello County project will concentrate on boosting awareness of the trauma of child abuse and the neglect that often accompanies the abuse. The project will help the community build stronger families and prevent child abuse injustices.
The alliance executive council member, Cara Galloway, gave the Ottumwa Courier a statement discussing the grant.
"I am ecstatic to see this project begin in Wapello County," Galloway told the Ottumwa Courier. "This is an opportunity for members of our community — from business owners to kids — to take accountability for the community we have created and what we want it to be. It is an opportunity to grow, learn and make changes so we can work to become a truly healthy community."
