COVID-19 cases are on the rise in Iowa, but at a slower rate, new state data has shown.
As of Wednesday, Aug. 1, the Iowa Department of Public Health said that 8,308 people have tested positive for COVID-19 between Wednesday, August 25, through Tuesday, August 31, which averages out to 1,186.9 new cases per day. The previous week only have 1,016 average cases per day, KCRG reported.
“Another dramatic increase in #COVID + cases. It's time for @IAgovernor to be transparent and stop ignoring the growing problem. => Release daily numbers so Iowans can keep their families safe,” Iowa House Democrats wrote in a Sept. 1tweet.
According to the data, as reported by KCRG, new results show a 16.8% increase for the week between Wednesday, August 25, through Tuesday, August 31, but it still lower than the 24.8% change for the two weeks recorded previous.
For children 17 and younger, data shows a 22% positivity rate, and a 20% positivity rate for those in their late teens and 20s, an Associated Press analysis reported, according to KCRG.
The Iowa Department of Health also reported 39 additional deaths due to COVID-19, leaving the state total since the pandemic began at 6,307, KCCI reported.
